Joyce Meyer
Portrait

I find Joyce Meyer's teaching to be quite accessible for day-to-day living and not overly theoretical or abstract.  While she seems to have a good grasp of the material, she also has a sense of humor, lightening the mood when she gets too serious.

Joyce Meyer is the person who introduced me to the "Amplified Bible" which I would suggest to anyone who would like to get a better understanding of Christian Scripture without fighting through all the "thees" and "thous" of the King James Version.  Where I usually use the King James for study, the Amplified is easier for just reading to get context.  The translation tries to expand on the meanings of words and where usually quite good, as with all translations, has it's own bias in a few areas.

As far as biographical information goes, I don't really have much, but here is what I have collected.  Joyce Meyer has been teaching since 1976 and in full-time ministry since 1980. Before establishing her own ministry called "Life In The Word, Inc." she had been an associate pastor at Life Christian Church in St. Louis, Missouri where she taught a weekly class which was also known as "Life in the Word."

She has been married to her husband Dave for over 35 years and all four of her children and their spouses work in the ministry that is broadcast on radio and television around the world.

Joyce believes that the call on her life is to "establish believers in God's Word" and as she says, "Jesus died to set the captives free, and far too many Christians have little or no victory in their daily lives."  As the starting tagline of her broadcasts says, "Life in the Word is a practical teaching that can be applied to everyday life."

On her website, you can view several of her most recent programs on your computer as well as find out when and where she broadcasts in your area.  As she travels around quite a bit, you can also find out if she will be coming to your area anytime in the near future.
